Flower bed

Mom and Dad came up to help me with the flower bed....and ended up doing just about everything. (I pushed dirt back into one or two holes and helped to take them out the containers....Julian wasn't cooperating after a while).

Obviously I know nothing about planting and thought the 3 bags of mulch I got would spread farther than they did (I didn't think it would cover everything, but at least more than it did)

On the bottom bed I want to plant LOTS of flowers in the spring.

Side note....the garage (my side) is clean enough for my truck!!!! YEAH!!!!!

Corner Hutch

The corner hutch that my grandmother bought us is finally in and it looks BEAUTIFUL!! I am thrilled with the way it came out (no longer green speckled) and Dad added crown molding to it. Thanks again Grandma and Mom (for painting it) and Dad for installing it and putting new hardware on it!!

Sidewalks and patio

Our next project is a flower bed to the left of this walkway

I realized when I downloaded these pics that I didn't take any of the entire patio....it extends out to the right....a lower level from the one you see where the wooden posts are...

I got the front door painted....now I need to do the side lights

I love the fall because I LOVE mums!!!

Our latest project

Grandma came up today to sand the china cabinet and put the first coat of paint on it. Manny of course had to help.
We are having the front walk done..then I can start a flower bed. I want to build a rock/retaining wall at the corner of the house.

Steps to go in (gotta get that door painted...my time is running short)

The back from the corner all the way over to the deck stairs and back patio

The two level patio out from the house with a fire pit (I'm not sure what to expect there)

This is all Manny's doing. I just sat back and gave him the okay to do what he wanted...he gave me that liberty with many things inside the house...I owed him the same!! I can't wait to see the finished product.....more to come Monday!

I need your opinion

OK, I have hung curtains on the windows upstairs and I am not sure which ones I like better. Please give me your opinion...even if you don't have a blog go to anonymous and leave a vote....thanks!!!! (leave your name with it so I know who looked at it!!)

They are both a light green; almost like a celery color (husband hates them (smile)) The window with the scarf is sheer....the other window is a different material. You can't tell in the pics tho.

The room is coming out so dark..sorry!

(never mind all the clutter...I am trying to do this while the boys nap...clean up later!!)

or # 2 (this and the next are the same....just different views)

Curtains

my favorite

Dad came to the house today to put up curtain rods for me. I LOVE the curtains in all the rooms, but I think the downstairs ones are my favorite. I don't have any pics of the living room/dining room because they were coming out dark. I will take a pic in the morning and update. I now only need something on the window in the boys' room and the back door in the kitchen needs a valance (gotta find one I like and that matches). Again, thanks Dad for all you do!!!!

We have a weeds...err I mean a lawn

Here is what part of our front lawn is looking like....you can't tell but there are tons of weeds growing up with the grass. I pulled out more than enough yesterday and there are a heap to go. I want to plant some kind of a ground covering in front of the stone wall on either side to not worry about grass or weeds at that point.

The rest of the front lawn was finally finished Sunday. There are no pictures of workers because I was out there working. Julian sat very content for the first hour and then it started to rain (thank goodness) and we went back out to finish after the rain and Julian was napping at that point.

My next project....a flower bed or something with a walkway

Yard work

Taina helping to lay hay
Manny doing the hard stuff Part of the back yard
Yes I did more than just take pictures. I was down there helping and actually called mom to come and watch the boys so Manny and I could get the back yard done before the rain came Thursday night. She came up and decided she'd rather lay hay then deal with bedtime and the boys.

We actually have grass coming up in the front and on the side of the house (I'll get a picture). It's so exciting to see and know that we'll have a lawn this summer. I have never had an interest in gardening or planting flowers, but with the thought of a lawn and putting in a walkway I get excited to plant something. The best thing for me will be ones that require little maintanance being that I am so busy with the 3 kids and work. (Only 15 more days there yippeee)

We will have a lawn...

I am so proud of my husband for getting out there today in this hot weather and raking and dropping grass seed in the front yard....he only has the side and back to finish (about 3 times the amount of what he did today!!!) If it was up to him he would have left it alone till next year. Thank you baby for giving the kids a place to play this summer (my sanity depends on it!!)

We failed

So we had a final inspection yesterday and we failed. We need house numbers up, change a smoke detector to a combo w/ carbon monoxide, put sheetrock up under the stairs (in the closet) and get the well log on a DEC form. Two of the four are fixed already, the other two we are waiting on the well driller and electrician for. We have another inspection Monday; then we can hopefully move in!!

Wednesday is the BIG day

After two dr appointments for the boys yesterday I ran to the surveyors office and picked up the "plot plan". I then realized if I quickly ran home and grabbed Taina and the paperwork I could get to the building department before they closed. I got there (and the woman kept looking at the clock...clam down hun...you have 25 minutes left). She scheduled us for Wednesday @ 2:30. Please pray that we don't have G-E-O-R-G-E!! I then asked about getting our CO and moving in...she informed me that the guys don't get back to the office until 4pm and then they give the paperwork to "Joan" but she won't look at it until Thursday morning, and she is quite busy so it will be a couple of days before we receive our CO to move in...expect it Mon or Tues she told me....yeah ok!!! I will be so happy to not have to deal with "them" anymore!!!

We went and ordered furniture today. We got our bedroom set(in king), Taina's bedroom set, bunkbeds for Manny and a sectional for upstairs. It is so exciting with everything coming together!

Still waiting

We are still waiting on the surveyor so we can submit paperwork and get a final inspection. He was supposed to go out last week and didn't. He was to go yesterday (don't know if he did) and we haven't heard that our paperwork is ready yet. OH please hurry Mr. Surveyor!

Dad finished the tile downstairs and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!!! Mom finished painting the trim and stairs.....everything is pretty much done.

Completion is in sight

Dad and Richie worked on the railings today...and will hopefully find a day to finish them before the end of the week. All of our paperwork is almost complete...need to turn that in to get a final inspection. We are waiting on the surveyor to come out and plot the deck and septic on the map and get that to us then we are ready for an inspection.......and MOVE ON IN!!!!!!!

Work

I worked at the house today. I finished cleaning the dust from the fans and wiped down the bathrooms. I hung the shower curtain in our bathroom; it matches the tile perfectly!!! (and that is just coincidental) I then painted all the wood supports in the closets so that Dad can put the rods and shelves in. I have plans on going back tomorrow to touch up the baseboard trim and doors and paint the other doors that need to be painted. Dad grouted the bathroom and hung the mirror. The dark wood looks beautiful against the sage walls (I'll take pictures tomorrow). He finished tiling everything downstairs (was a lot to do) and tomorrow he will hopefully finish the deck (minus the stairs) and hang the doors downstairs. We need the deck stairs and the bathroom downstairs to be completed so that we can call for an inspection for a CO. Hopefully by the end of next week all will be done!!!

House cleaning

Today (oops Friday; I just realized it is now Saturday morning...can you guess who else is wide awake with me...Julian) Manny and I went to the house and started cleaning. The final coat was put on the floor Wednesday so I wanted to get the dust off of everything. I started in the kitchen and wiped down the insides and outsides of all the cabinets. I washed the stove and wiped my handy little stainless steel wipes over all the appliances. These wipes are much easier than the cream I used to have in the condo (of course they streak easier too). Manny wiped down all the walls to get the dust off and even cleaned the fan in the living room. Taina had fun with the swifter cleaning up our dusty footprints each time we came back upstairs from the family room. Manny monster was at daycare...otherwise I would have gotten nothing done. I can't wait to go again Monday or Tuesday and clean the fans in the bedrooms and see what else I can do.

Dad is almost done tiling down stairs; the bathroom and mechanical room have to be finished. Then he has to put the toilet and vanity in and do the baseboard trim down there. Upstairs just needs the doors hung (Mom has been painting them) and closet rods put up and shower rods too. Dad also has two sides up on the deck and needs the last side and stairs done too. I can't wait for everything to be done so we can move in!!!!!!!

Problem solved and progress made

Last week Dad tried again to find the leak in the radiant heat....and he found it. He was able to jack hammer a few more areas, find the problem and fix it....YEAH!!! This was holding up the downstairs being tiled and now that it has been fixed we are on the road to completion. Dad tiled all day Saturday and most of Sunday. He has most of the room done, needs to do the bathroom, mechanical room and laundry room and little spots in the hallway. He and Richie are working on the deck today and tomorrow and will hopefully have the railings up. The upstairs is pretty much completed (need to put closet organizers in). The guys are coming Thursday to do a final coat on the floors and then everything is done upstairs!!!!
